Valheim
Stoke runs Valheim’s dedicated server for Linux, downloaded from Steam when you make a server. Each server has its own install, so servers with different mods, or one held back on an older game version, don’t get in each other’s way.
Servers
Section titled “Servers”- Install and update from the panel, with Steam’s progress shown. Maintenance can repair or reinstall a broken install.
- Public test or the public build, per server.
- Crossplay: players join by code through PlayFab’s relay, with no ports to forward for the game.
- Worlds: make a new one from a seed, switch between several, or upload one from your own game.
- Clean shutdowns: Valheim only saves its world when asked to stop, so Stoke always asks, and gives it time.
Mods come from Thunderstore through BepInEx:
- Browse and install from the server’s Mods area; dependencies come with them.
- Changes are queued and applied together, with a backup first.
- Saved sets of mods to switch a server between, and config files edited in the panel, with a friendly page for mods that have one.
- The Stoke launcher gives every player exactly the server’s mods.
The Stoke server mod
Section titled “The Stoke server mod”A small BepInEx mod on the server that the panel installs. It reports players’ positions, chat and what they explore, so the panel’s map and Hearth stay live, and it carries the panel’s pins and messages into the game.
Stoke Client
Section titled “Stoke Client”The players’ side, installed by the launcher: voice chat in the game, the campfire menu (F7), direct messages and the Lobby in chat, and routes on the compass.
Both the Stoke server mod and Stoke Client will also be published on Thunderstore, for anyone installing mods by hand.
