Voice chat
Stoke has voice chat of its own, so a group needs no Discord or other app beside the game. On a Stoke server you hear the players near you, fading with distance, and you can talk with your party or the whole server wherever they are. Your host’s panel carries it; nothing goes through anyone else’s service.
From the browser, voice is in the Hearth. This page is about the game.
In Valheim
Section titled “In Valheim”You need Stoke Client, which the launcher installs, and your game paired with the panel from the Stoke box on the main menu. Voice then joins by itself on the server’s panel, and leaves when you leave.
Talking
Section titled “Talking”- Push to talk is the default: hold V. Or switch to voice activity in the game’s Stoke settings.
- F9 mutes you; F10 deafens you.
- B steps how far your voice carries: speaking (25 m), shouting (70 m), whispering (6 m).
- A microphone in the bottom-left corner shows your voice going out. When it’s crossed out in red, voice isn’t connected, and the reason shows beside it.
Open the campfire (F7) and its Voice page:
- Everyone: the whole server, wherever they are.
- A party: only those you invite.
- Rooms the operators made, such as “Raid”.
- The Lobby: everyone with a server on the panel, in any game or the browser.
In a room you talk to the room, and still hear the voices near you.
When nobody hears you
Section titled “When nobody hears you”- The microphone doesn’t fill when you talk: pick the right one in the Stoke settings’ Microphone, and try Hear myself.
- With voice activity nothing goes out: set the level a little under your voice; the settings show how loud you are.
- Crossed out in red: usually the panel’s voice port can’t be reached. Tell your host.
In Minecraft
Section titled “In Minecraft”Voice in Minecraft is from the browser for now, in the Hearth. Voice from the launcher, for every game, is planned.
For hosts
Section titled “For hosts”- Voice uses UDP port 2455. Publish it from the container and forward it on your router. If your players come in through the Stoke tunnel, you don’t need to forward it: their voice comes through the tunnel with the game. Forwarding it as well does no harm, and lets anyone not on the tunnel use voice too.
- Each server’s Voice page sets how far voices carry, push to talk only, whether players may make parties or join from the browser, and the highest quality. It also lists players’ reports.
- Operators can mute someone, take them out of voice for a while, or move them to another room, from the Hearth or the campfire. Every action is in the audit log.
